Nothing

There is a strange paradox that in order to be joined with the ‘infinite’ God, we need to be reduced to zero. Any aspirations of being transformed into His image are meaningless, as often our perception of God is nothing more than the extension of our own ideals; indeed, it is as if we have transformed ‘God’ into our image albeit in its most perfect form. In truth, we barely understand anything that is spiritual. Ironically it is not the ‘spirit-world’ that is ethereal and vague but our own, which is shadowy and flat. A small nugget of this spiritual matter could in fact encompass the whole universe. If we are to become ‘spiritual-beings’ then our perspective of life needs to be realigned with this ‘new’ world. The inner contentment that is achieved with the surrendering the control of our own being, together with the acknowledgement of our own ineptitude, stupidity and flawed nature, will become the platform upon which our spirit can grow.  

Whenever we look away from God and focus instead on the world around us, our defective thoughts and actions will surface causing us to sink into the pit of despair and self-loathing. The latter however is not something to be contested by denial or therapeutic soft words because, our thoughts depict an actual, if incomplete, truth about ourselves. If we wish God to use us, then He needs to sculpt and fashion us. This process can be painful as He chisels away at our ego; the more He removes from us the more wholesome we can become. We mistake the pain we suffer, as His vengeance against us for past sins, whereas in fact He is demonstrating His Love for us in the same way a skilful surgeon removes cancerous tissue. The more we see into the depths of our souls, the more disappointed and distraught we will feel; this is always a good thing, for it leads us back to God and helps us to forgive the failures in others.
