Mirrors

When pride reaches its pinnacle, the level of arrogance and self-declared wisdom means it no longer feels the need for God. This is humanity’s most precarious period when it effectively has turned its back on God and shunned His Love and care. One would be tempted to feel that His Love for us all, would grow cold and that we would be ultimately doomed. What can we do during this spiritual darkness where people fumble around, where there is no longer clarity in thought and where self-interest prevails? Here we can still mirror God’s Love in the same way the moon at nighttime can provide light and comfort to the Earth, offering some illumination for those who are lost. Similarly, just as the moon has no light of its own, we also have no intrinsic love by ourselves; we can simply reflect the Love that God has shown us.

It maybe this role is not an option as such, and the need to receive and display his Love is akin to that most eloquent of phrases – ‘to love God with your whole heart and love your neighbour as yourself’. The last part is important for we are but little lights and can shine, albeit brightly at times, to but a few. We cannot and I suspect never meant to save the whole world. If indeed the world were to be saved it would only need to turn round and face Him and we as such, could also meekly bask in His Light and Warmth. To be a true mirror, one should just focus on His Love, such that His warmth can melt even the most hardened of hearts. We do not need to add to this Love, any personal wisdom or perceived knowledge for the Truth will always stand on its own ‘two feet’. Also, Love does not need to be defended for in essence it is the most powerful of forces and cannot be destroyed by foolishness or the ugliness that accompanies hatred and envy. More importantly, we do not need to include further laws and regulations for those aberrations will distort the Good News causing it to become fractured and diffused. The debris that is left will cause others to stumble and even reject His message. These discarded ‘fragments’ often amount to something much more cumbersome and burdensome than the requirements of any of God’s commandments. Love will only remain pure when it is unconditional and devoid of any judgement on our part.
